Juniper Gardens
The Juniper Gardens area of Kansas City, Kansas, was the site of a TAP which took place in April 2021.
The Kansas City Kansas Housing Authority is in the process of closing the Juniper Gardens housing project, which was the first public housing project in Kansas. This approximately 30-acre site represents an opportunity to redevelop a catalytic project that could affect positive, transformational change in the community and generate long-term value for the Unified Government of KCK-WYCO. The Northeast Area Master Plan articulates the need for such a redevelopment to create a safe, stable, and mixed-income residential neighborhood in which new public housing is integrated and connected to a full range of job opportunities, housing types, community facilities, and commercial uses. The goal of this TAP is to develop a vision and development plan for Juniper Gardens once decommissioning of the existing housing development is complete.
Our TAP panel convened virtually over two weeks in April, assessing the site and scope of work, interviewing stakeholders from the community, and sharing expertise in their various disciplines to develop their recommendations. The panel made their final report and recommendations for Juniper Gardens on April 23, 2021.
We are so grateful to our Juniper Gardens TAP panelists for sharing their time and expertise:
