This 21st-century destination library is designed to be an anchor in the community and to play a vital role in downtown Olathe’s civic, cultural, educational, and economic life. Serving the library’s vision in a modern and significant way, the space will be a vibrant community gathering place that encourages active learning, civic engagement, and a strong sense of Olathe as a place. The four-story building totals 46,600 square feet and includes a café, a large multiuse room, a creative space, numerous meeting and study rooms, and a local history area in addition to core library services. The library will also reach beyond its walls with several inviting outdoor spaces, including a park, story steps, an amphitheater, and an outdoor terrace.
While the Olathe Public Library is the catalyst for the project and will be the main tenant, occupying 41,800 square feet of the building, the vision for this project is far greater than just a new library building. In accordance with the Olathe 2040 Strategic Plan, the project exemplifies the City’s commitment to advancing the quality of life for residents through connectivity, improving opportunities for education and access to resources, and increasing the unique places that Olathe has to offer. This project embraces all of those principles while also breathing new life and activity into the downtown area and creating a community-focused space that can grow and transform with the evolution of the city.
