On January 13 and 14, a panel of 10 local experts in real estate development convened as a Technical Assistance Panel led by former EPR Properties CEO David Brain and John McGurk, a shareholder with Polsinelli in the real estate department. The technical assistance panel convened at the request of the Sponsors: The City of Kansas City, Missouri and Mid-America Regional Council (MARC).
The panel will met for the purpose of addressing issues relating to the future plans for and development of the area generally bound by Broadway Blvd on the west, Charlotte St. on the east, 6th St. to the south and Independence Ave to the north, commonly referred to as the Northloop. The panel studied the repurposing of the Northloop highway right of way as mixed-use commercial property with high-rise market rate residential living space.
The Sponsors requested the following question be discussed:
What land uses/development should be recommended should the Northloop be decommissioned and the Northloop land become available for redevelopment?
Following two focused days of site tours, stakeholder interviews and brainstorming, the panel gave a public presentation of their findings and recommendations. An Executive Summary of their findings can be found here.
